The Petaluma River Bridge is the longest Precast Pre-stressed Segmental Girder Bridge West of the Mississippi River

This project is the longest (907ft) Precast Bulb Tee-Girder Segmental Bridge West of the Mississippi River, with the river span being 230 ft. The project included: bridge demolition over highway, railroad and waterway, bridge construction over Hwy 116 and railroad, bridge construction over Petaluma River, cofferdams, CIDH, driven piles, retaining walls, MSE walls, CIP-PS Box Girder, Precast California Bulb-Tee Girders – three new bridge – Kastania OC, Hwy 101/116 Separation and Overhead, and Petaluma River Bridge. Sunny performed role as chief submittal review. This project was awarded #2 of the Top Ten Bridges in the Nation by Road & Bridges Magazine 2015.

Sunny was involved in a key technical submittal role on this $90 Million dollar project which included:

Bridge Removal Plans, Falsework (Lakeville) over a railroad and highway, Kastania, Temporary Shoring, Temporary Access Bridge, Cofferdams, Trestles, Concrete Crane Support Pads, Precast Girder Placement Plan, Precast Girder Support Falsework for Girder Splices, MSE, etc.

Value Added to the Client

The precast girder placement plan, and precast girder support Falsework were critical operations that were required for successfully placement of the girders. In many cases a couple of 1-1/8” diameter steel rods suspended these massive 12 ft deep girders until the concrete splices cured. The project involved no issues with girder placement and all the girders which entailed of 3 stages construction and 5 spans of the bridge aligned perfectly and were cast into within project tolerances. The bridge deck came out particularly well and has a superior ride performance for the end line user.
