Unlike other firms that offer and claim to be experts in many diverse fields of civil engineering, we specialize in Structures only, more specifically in bridges and buildings and everything around them. This includes both design services and construction management services.
Members of the Substrate team have provided design and construction management services for highway bridges, interchanges, grade separations, municipal bridges, private bridges, high-end residential, commercial, schools & hospitals.

In construction, we advocate the use of the most environmentally responsible building materials (preferably from local sources) and responsible construction practices, not only to reduce our structure’s carbon footprints, but minimize impacts to local wildlife and to protect the waters of the state.

We are capable of providing services to State and Federal DOTS, Local Transit Authorities, City, Counties, Ports, Airports, Water Resource Agencies, local Sanitation Districts, Building clients – Federal, Schools & Institutions (DSA), Hospitals (OSHPD), and the General Services Administration (GSA).

Our company is a local Bay Area business and is certified as a Small Business (SB) and also certified as a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) for work on federally funded projects. Finally, Substrate, Inc is certified as a MSBE with BART.
STAFF RESOURCES
Our staff resources are such that we have licensed SE’s, licensed PE’s, structural drafters, and a bench of qualified construction inspectors ready to mobilize at a moment’s notice. We specialize in structures only, more specifically building or bridge projects. We are a rare firm that can staff licensed structural engineers on a construction management project; to not only ensure contract compliance, but a full understanding of the design intent. We also have a bench of seasoned specialty construction inspectors that have a niche in inspection of CIP Box Girder Bridges, Structural Steel Bridges, Tieback Retaining Walls, Railroad Bridges, Buildings, etc.
