Bridge Replacement in the heart of Marin
This $27 million dollar project is a multi-year project over sensitive Corte Madera Creek in a very highly visible area next to Marin General Hospital and Redwood High School.
The bridge replacement involves the use of pre-cast tub girders sitting atop multiple bents consisting of large and deep 8ft diameter CIDH piles. The project also improved pedestrian/bicycle access with new amenities. They are also improved safety and better lighting. Finally the project improves wildlife habitat and Creek access within Larkspur via associated environmental projects.
As a subconsultant to Prescience Engineers, Sunny was involved in the Constructability Review, technical submittal review, such as the trestle and cofferdam review and field inspection. Substrate reviewed the complicated trestle design for the contractor, which was redesigned twice due to pile restrictions in the creek.
A key part of this project is to keep the existing bridge open during construction with no major detours allowed. There are major businesses on both sides of this bridge and it’s a major lifeline structure.
Value Added to the Client
The complex trestle design was modified twice by the Contractor to limit the pile driving/vibrating in the creek to meet permit requirement. This provided for a very technically challenging trestle design and review which required a minimally designed trestle and strengthened fingers which the core of the CIDH Pile Drilling will occur.
