APPROACH

We at Substrate believe that are able to fulfill our clients needs and we do this by doing our best to fully understand the project. We evaluate the architectural design, the geotechnical information, the client, the stakeholders, design intent, the building materials, the potential building contractors, and the jurisdictional entity involved. How can we be of service if we do not understand the complexities and challenges of the project before we embark?

Our design approach is collaborative, and we pride ourselves in being able to deliver attractive, cost-effective and construction friendly projects. Innovation is a cornerstone of Substrate’s philosophy and wherever possible we strive to use the latest technologies such as BIM (Revit). We are team players and been involved in Integrated Project Delivery (IDP) and Design-Build.

GREEN & SUSTAINABLE

We at Substrate understand that sustainable design is increasingly a priority for architects, builders, and owners; therefore, our staff consists of LEED Accredited Professionals and Green Associates. Members of Substrate, Inc have assisted many of our clients achieve LEED Certification and/or sustainable design goals for their respective projects by implementing value-engineering concepts. These include incorporating alternative solar energy infrastructure, specifying “green” building materials, and designing structural systems which reduce overall materials expenditure and waste.

We consider ourselves efficient engineers and strive to apply lean and value engineering principles to our designs effectively saving owners thousands of dollars.

Our company is a local Bay Area business and is certified as a Small Business (SB) and also certified as a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) for work on federally funded projects. Finally, Substrate, Inc is certified as a MSBE with BART.
